These cookies are a perfect blend of rich chocolate and vibrant red velvet, offering a delightful twist in every bite!
__Ingredients__
- Butter, softened (3/4 cup) - 170 grams
- Sugar (1 cup) - 200 grams
- 2 eggs
- Vanilla (2 teaspoons)
- All Purpose Flour (1 1/2 cups) - 195 grams
- Baking powder 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking soda 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt 1/2 teaspoon
- Cocoa powder (1/4 cup) - 30 grams
- Cocoa powder (1 tablespoon) - 7.5 grams
- All-purpose flour (3 tablespoons) - 24 grams
- Red food coloring (1 teaspoon)
Recipe
1. Beat 3/4 cup butter at room temperature for about a minute.
2. Add 1 cup granulated sugar, 2 eggs, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
3. Scrape the bowl and add 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda. Mix well.
4. Scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl. Divide the dough into two equal portions.
**For Chocolate Dough:**
5. Add 1/4 cup cocoa powder to one half of the dough. Mix well.
**For Red Velvet Dough:**
6. Add 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, and 1/2 teaspoon red gel food coloring to the second half of the dough. Mix and adjust the color with additional red food coloring if needed.
**Prepare the Dough:**
7. Cover, and refrigerate both dough portions for half an hour.
8. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of each dough, making about 12 cookies per flavor.
9. Roll each dough portion into balls (each weighing 28 to 30 grams).
10. Roll each ball in sugar to coat.
**Shape and Bake:**
11. Press a thumb or spoon into each dough ball to make an indentation.
12. Freeze for 10 minutes.
13. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes.
14. Remove from oven. Cookies will be slightly puffed; make a small indentation again.
15. Let cookies cool slightly, then place a Hershey’s kiss chocolate in the center.
